Alexa Chung to host 24-Hour catwalk

Model turned tv-presenter and Mulberry lover Alexa Chung is asked to host a new US show. In the new show - working title 24-Hour Catwalk - designers will play off against each other. Lifetime will produce the show and executive vice president Rob Sharenow tells WWD, "The thing that is happening now in fashion culture is that every character and subset of skill is being explored, and there is going to be great shows coming out of that."

Fashion it-girl Alexa seems the right person to host the show, and she isn't a newbie to tv either. She starred in MTV's It's On With Alexa Chung and last summer she filmed Thrift America, where the 27-year old trawled flea markets, second-hand stores and garage sales across the US.

Claudia Schiffer's knitwear line inspired by "the dark side of the forest"

Walks in the German forest with her dad inspired Claudia Schiffer's knitwear collection, called Claudia Schiffer - that's easy to remember. The new label's designs have already been called "it-knits". Claudia, 40, has been in the fashion industry since she was 17. However, she says, "I'm taking baby steps with designing. I have 24 years' experience in fashion, but the technology in manufacturing knitwear is new to me."

Claudia started designing after she spoke at a clothing conference, where she talked about the school run, and how hard it was for working mothers to find good pieces to wear, when taking their kids to school. Clothes she dubbed, "clothes you don't have to think about". Afterwards she was approached by Iris van Armin, a German knitwear company. Claudia says, "They came to me with the idea of designing the sort of pieces I said were impossible to find. 'Just concentrate on the design,' they told me - so I did."

Apart from designer, Claudia also tested all the clothes herself. The mother-of-three wore her own chunky hand-knit capes, boyfriend-style sweater dresses, ribbed cardigans, tube dresses, oversized jumpers and cashmere tunic sweaters, when taking her kids to school. Regarding the use of cashmere she says, "Cashmere is a big passion of mine. It has something classic about it. You can wear it when you are playing with your children, and then go to work and not worry it won't look smart."

The dark palette she chose for the designs was inspired by those walks in the forest, "My inspiration is the forest and its dark side. It's not about the cute fox, more the fox eating its prey, and 'pebbles' lying on the forest floor that could turn out to be spiders." Talking about spiders, Claudia says that she was always fascinated by spiders and that she and husband Matthew Vaughan have insect paintings on the walls of their London and Suffolk homes. "As a child, I was fascinated with spiders' webs sparkling with morning dew, or just after the rain," she says. Unsurprisingly then, the logo of the Claudia Schiffer knitwear line is a spider.

The line has some lovely clothing items, that I'm sure many moms - and not-moms - would love to wear. However, the range isn't for us mere mortals, with an oversized cardi-coat costing £1,150 or about $1890. I can't imagine anyone happy to have porridge/chocolate milk/juice spilled on clothing that expensive.

Julia Roberts' Lancome ad banned in the UK

Julia Roberts' ad © Lancome
A Lancome advertisement starring Julia Roberts has been banned in the United Kingdom after a politician started a discussion about the amount of airbrushing and excessive use of photoshop of the ad.

In the photo Julia, 44, has skin so smooth as a newborn baby. Jo Swinson, Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament, complained saying that the ad gave a "false impression of beauty," due to the amount of airbrushing. The ad is for Lancome's Teint Miracle, and Julia's digitally altered flawless skin gives the impression that it's due to that product - instead of Photoshop. The Advertising Standards Authority has now pulled the ads in the UK, after branding the ad misleading.

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast expanded

When the second season of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills starts in September, we'll be able to enjoy a peek into the lives of two new cast members. Businesswoman Dana Wilkey and Brandi Glanville, whose ex-husband Eddie Cibrian left her for his now-wife LeAnn Rimes, are added to the recurring cast, although, officially, they will not be Housewives.

All six original cast mates will return for season two. Taylor Armstrong, Camille Grammar (former Mrs. Kelsey Grammar), Adrienne Maloof, Kim Richards, Kyle Richards and Lisa Vanderpump will definitely be back on our tv screens.

Brandi, a friend of Adrienne, "really wanted to be on the show, so she's very happy," thus tells a source to People Magazine. In her turn, Dana is a friend of Taylor. According to her twitter profile, she's "an accomplished business woman and a soon to be television personality."

As if that didn't sound promising enough, there's Camille and Kelsey Grammar's custody battle, Taylor's divorce, and Kim and Kyle's rocky relationship. Can you say "drama"?

Kim Kardashian's wedding gown said to be "beyond gorgeous"

Kim Kardashian has said that she's trying to keep her summer wedding as private as possible - private? Sure, when you disregard the cameras and realityshow -, but her friends share their thoughts on her upcoming wedding. People Magazine quotes close friend Brittny Gastineau as saying that she expects her friend to look like "a princess" on her wedding day. "Kim is so beautiful, so anything will look great." Brittny has also seen a sketch of the topsecret wedding dress, she says, "it's gorgeous. Beyond [gorgeous]. She's going to be amazing."

Friend and publicist Jonathan Cheban agrees with Brittny. People magazine quotes him as saying that lookwise he thinks that "we're going for over the top. If they're going to film [the wedding], the world is going to want to see something really exciting. It's Kim. She's not a movie star, she's not a pop star, she'a reality star that everyone's obsessed with and everyone wants to see." He adds, "To not give people a huge [wedding ceremony] for them to awe over, would almost be bad. It wouldn't be nice. I think people are expecting it. I think if it were a little elopement ceremony, people would be very disappointed."

Sounds like Kim & Co. will have a lot of planning and shopping to do for the big day, when she'll marry fiancé Kris Humphries. Brittny already said, "it's like the royal wedding", so Kim and Kris have to live up to many an expectation. Luckily, Jonathan has said that Kim is as "cool as a cucumber", so as long as there isn't too much bridezilla action, we're up for a mega tv wedding.

Could a four month old boy be the most fashionable person in the world? Of course, I'm not talking about any boy, I'm talking about Skyler Morrison Berman. Skyler is the son of Rodger Berman and Rachel Zoe. Rachel, 39, is a stylist to the stars and reportedly has a wardrobe that's worth over $1 million USD herself. Now little Skyler has been given a top handle Speedy bag, monogrammed with his initials, as a gift from the Louis Vuitton label.

Upon receiving the pricy bag Rachel tweeted, "Is Skyler to young too have his first LV? So MAJ for a new diaper bag! DIE! Thoughts? XoRZ." She added, "Sending a big, stylish thank you to @LouisVuitton_US for Skyler's insane gift on his 4 month birthday! :)" Rachel is a known Louis Vuitton fan and is regularly spotted with the label's clothing and accessories.

Not everyone is overjoyed with the idea of immersing someone so young in the world of luxury retail. New York based fashion website Styleite wrote, "And with that we have the answer to one of life's most pressing questions: Is Skyler too young to have his first Louis Vuitton? Our answer: Yes."

Gene Simmons proposed to Shannon Tweed

If you live in the US, you were able to watch A&E's reality show Gene Simmons Family Jewels Tuesday night. This episode was shown how KISS bass player Gene Simmons and longtime girlfriend Shannon Tweed were on holiday in Belize, when Gene said to her, "you're the only friend I've got. You're the only one I love... and you're the only when I ever will love," then he got down on one knee and proposed. Shannon accepted, but it remains to be seen whether or not the couple will really walk down the aisle.

The episode of Family Jewels was taped several months ago and their relationship has hit a rough patch, if not a roadblock. Shannon, 54, has been quoted by People Magazine as saying, "You're seeing a happy family, but in my heart, I'm dying." She has moved out of the family home and has said there's a "slim chance" of the couple getting back together. As shown in Family Jewels, the Simmons' have been in family therapy because of Gene, 61, his claims that he has slept with thousands of women. Last month, Shannon had enough of his infidelities and said that their relationship has "pretty much unravelled." She said, "I need some sort of commitment," and Gene's cheating has to be done with, "something has to give."

The couple had previously been 'happily unmarried'. Gene and Shannon have been together for 28 years and have two grown children, Nick, 22, and Sophie, 18.
